so NOT cool

Pop Quiz:

Say you're a 7-year-old child, autistic or not, and your class is taking a field trip to the local ice cream shop. What might you REASONABLY expect to enjoy at the end of said visit?

a.) Nothing but the pleasure of looking at all the ice cream
b.) A scoop of luscious strawberry ice cream
c.) The lunch your mom packed for you, which contains no ice cream
d.) The perseveration upon the idea of ice cream consuming your entire mind for the rest of the day

Unfortunately for the first graders at Henry's school, the answers for them are A, C, and D.

Ugh! Whose brilliant idea was this?

(As soon as Bill got home and Kate filled him in on what had happened, he took Henry up to the same shop for that strawberry ice cream.)

Wait. I don't get it. They went to an ice cream shop and DIDN'T get the kids ice cream? Did I read that right?

Right. They took the kids to the ice cream shop and I guess just showed them around?!

I wondered why the permission slip didn't ask us to send money, but thought that maybe the ice cream shop would give all the kids a free scoop!

I should add that this was a field trip for the whole, "regular", 1st grade. Henry's autism class takes community trips once a month, and those trips always involve bringing money and getting food at a restaurant.

I can't believe they didn't experience a revolt by the entire class.

That is just plain dumb!

Say you're a 40-year-old woman and someone took you to an ice cream shop "just to look"...

I'd be perseverating until the ice cream was in hand.

Crazy, crazy, crazy.

s-t-u-p-i-d.

I would send a bunch of ice cream to school at lunch time just to piss the teachers off.

I beg to differ, how dare they send a child to an ice-cream parlour, isn't that some kind of cruel and unusual treatment out here! they'd never get mine on the bus if he thought for one second that he would actually have to enter the shop. There again he's very good at hanging onto the door jam either not to go in or stay in as the case may be.
What a crazy school. Tut, tut, tut

This is just ridiculous! What was the purpose of the trip?
